We are an actuarial consultancy who work for the financial services industry. We provide services principally in the UK although we have experience and expertise in offshore life company practice. We provide all forms of actuarial support from full actuarial service packages through to specific actuarial input to major projects. We are experienced in tailoring our service to meet your needs.

Steve Dixon

Steve is the founding Partner of the firm. He is a qualified actuary and has over 35 years’ experience in the UK and offshore life industry.

Steve Dixon

Steve is the founding Partner of the firm. He has over 35 years’ experience in the UK and offshore life industry.

A qualified actuary with the practising certificates for With-Profits Actuary, Actuarial Function/Reviewing Actuary and Chief Actuary (Life). Steve is an Associate of the Institute of Directors. He advises senior managers on various actuarial and business issues, and maintains a keen interest in all work undertaken by the firm.

Steve has experience in:

- dealing with conventional with-profits business, unit-linked business, non-profit business, unitised with-profits.

- life, pensions, medical expenses, PHI business and general insurance.

Steve has been involved with several key special projects for clients and is well known amongst the actuarial profession. He has been on the Life TCF Working Party and the Life Solvency 2 Working Party and is currently the chair of the Life Procyclicality and Counter Cyclical Buffers Working Party. He is also a member of the Risk Working Party for ILAG and on the Regulation Committee of the AFM. He is a member of the Industry Working Group on Reporting established by the PRA.

Alison Carr

Alison is a Senior Consultant Actuary and Client Manager in the firm. She is a qualified actuary and has over 20 years’ experience as a consultant in the UK life assurance industry.

Alison Carr

Alison is a Senior Consultant Actuary and Client Manager in the firm. She has over 20 years’ experience as a consultant in the UK life assurance industry.

She is a qualified actuary and holds practising certificates for With-Profits Actuary, Actuarial Function Holder/Reviewing Actuary and Chief Actuary (Life). She carries out reserved roles for a number of clients, including Chief Actuary, With-Profits Actuary and Actuarial Conduct Function Holder in a third country branch. Alison has spent much of the recent past helping clients prepare for Solvency II.

Alison has experience in dealing with conventional and unitised with-profits, unit-linked, non-profit and PHI business on a wide range of projects for large and small life insurers.

These have included:

- acting as reviewing actuary

- Solvency I and Solvency II valuations

- pricing new products under Solvency I and Solvency II

- developing model office systems

- experience investigations

- business planning projections

- asset shares and bonus recommendations

- Part VII transfers and transfers of engagement for friendly societies.

She takes the lead in the firm’s responses to new professional guidance and is currently on the Actuaries’ Code Review Working Party of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

When not working or looking after her own children, Alison runs a toddler group and chairs a local pre-school.

Kathryn Moore

Kathryn is a Senior Consultant Actuary and Client Manager in the firm. She is a qualified actuary and has over 25 years’ experience in the UK insurance industry, over 20 years of that in general insurance.

Kathryn Moore

Kathryn is a Senior Consultant Actuary and Client Manager in the firm. She has over 25 years’ experience in the UK insurance industry, over 20 years of that in general insurance.

She is a qualified actuary and holds a practising certificate for Chief Actuary Non-Life (excluding Lloyds).

Kathryn joined the firm in April 2015 after working as Chief Actuary at Assurant Solutions for five years. Kathryn began working for Royal Sun Alliance where she supported actuarial teams across Europe and Asia developing products to fit their specific markets.

Kathryn has experience of:

- implementation of the Solvency II regime, developing the processes required to calculate technical provisions and solvency capital requirements using both the standard formula and an internal model

- pricing

- claims reserving

- stochastic capital modelling

- project management

Currently Kathryn is carrying out the role of Chief Actuary for a general insurance client.

When not working or looking after her own children, Kathryn enjoys active holidays and swimming. She is a Governor and chairs the Finance Committee of a local infant school.

Phil Smith

Phil is a Senior Consultant and Team Leader within the firm. He joined the firm in August 2002 and has gained invaluable experience in both the UK life and general insurance industry.

Phil Smith

Phil is a Senior Consultant and Team Leader within the firm. He joined the firm in August 2002 as a Junior Consultant, and has since progressed to his current position, gaining invaluable experience within the UK life, health and general insurance industries and applying this experience to managing both a range of clients and a team of consultants.

He has a broad range of product experience including with profits, income protection and medical expense insurance.

His roles include completing Solvency I and II actuarial valuations, product development, risk management, investment strategy and compliance.

Outside of work Phil plays volleyball and squash. A large amount of his spare time is spent watching sport especially following Manchester City FC (which is not as painful as it used to be).

Simon is a Senior Consultant Actuary and Team Leader in the firm. He joined the firm in Sept 2010 after working at the Pearl Group for five years. He is a qualified actuary and has over 20 years’ experience in the UK and overseas life industry.

At Pearl, he was involved in the annuity buy out market, assisting senior management in potential acquisitions.

Simon has significant experience in dealing with conventional non-profit business especially annuities and has extensive Prophet modelling experience.

Simon enjoys producing valuations to time and to budget.

Alastair is a Senior Consultant in the firm, having joined in August 2002. He has carried out annual valuations for many of our clients and has been involved with the transition over to Solvency II.

Alastair is a Senior Consultant in the firm, having joined in August 2002. He has carried out annual valuations for many of our clients and has been involved with the transition over to Solvency II.

He also has experience in dealing with transfers of engagements, model office projections, product development and has extensive experience in assisting clients with calculating redress for both Pension and FSAVC complaint cases. He has also been involved in expert witness projects.

Away from work, Alastair enjoys playing golf, cricket and tennis.

Jennifer Osoata

Jennifer is an Actuarial Consultant in the firm and is our CPD-Coordinator. She joined the firm in November 2008. Jennifer is currently a member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Solvency II Low Interest Rates Working Party.

She has experience in Solvency I and II valuations, Solvency II implementation, modelling and reporting, Prophet valuations, capital risk analysis and management, model office projections and product development including profitability, key features and illustrations.

Jennifer is near qualification.

Jennifer enjoys playing badminton, raising funds for various charity events as well as tutoring GCSE or A level Maths to the less privileged. Jennifer is also currently a career mentor for eligible University of Greenwich students.

Suzanne has worked on both Solvency I and II valuations, including experience analyses, modelling and reporting.

Suzanne is now making her way through the actuarial exams. She spends her free time playing sports. She has recently joined a newly formed basketball team and they are working towards making their way up the table in the regional league.

Sophie Tsang

Sophie is a Junior Actuarial Consultant. She joined the firm in September 2016 after studying Actuarial Science at the University of East Anglia, gaining exemptions from CT1-CT8 of the IFoA exams, and completing a summer internship with SDA in 2015.

Sophie has been involved in Solvency II documentation, data reconciliations and processes, experience analyses and annual reporting.

Sophie continues to study for the actuarial exams.

Sue is an Actuarial Assistant and joined the firm in October 2016. She has over 30 years’ experience in the UK life insurance industry.

Sue began working at Royal Sun Alliance where she held a number of roles supporting actuarial functions before moving into the investment company to support external fund managers with the management and investment of their own discretionary managed funds. Following a move to Friends Life (subsequently Aviva), she became a complaints handler on Mortgage Endowment Complaints.

For the last 8 years, Sue has been conducting experience analysis and basis setting for a range of UK products and those of the international company. Her previous experience includes both demographic and economic basis work and she has a good knowledge of Prophet.
